Software updates are critical to keeping your devices secure. They provide updates to know security issues and often bring new features and fix existing issues. However with these often come new issues that need to be fixed or they can bring your devices to their knees if the updates fail. This is true for any devices from your modem or smartphone to your PC or iPad.


Most devices have the option to disable automatic updates or to at least delay them. Unfortunately this is hard in Windows 10 than it used to be due to the fact they have no setting to just turn of updates. They often even take away the option of Shutting down your computer without the 'Update and Shutdown' option.

Below you will find some workarounds for disabling your Windows 10 updates.


Disable Windows 10 Update.

Steps


This option involves disabling the windows update service. Be advised that this option is not a permanent fix as Windows may re-enable the service.

1. Open the 'Run' prompt. Press the 'Windows + R' keys at the same time. (Windows key is the 'Start Menu' key)

2. In the Open: section of the Run prompt type: 'services.msc' as per the image above.

3. Once the 'Services' window has opened scroll towards the bottom until you find 'Windows Update'.

 4. Once you locate 'Windows update' Double click it to open Windows Update Properties.

5. Once the properties open click on option next to 'Startup type:' and select 'Disable'. Then click 'Apply' then 'OK'.
